Turkey is one of the most important producers of walnut in the world. Turkish walnut production accounts for around 9% of the World’s total walnut production. Turkish walnuts are usually grown without pesticides or chemical fertilizers and are highly valued since they qualify as organic. Ecological conditions such as rainfall, temperature and soil characteristics favor walnut growing in almost all regions of Turkey. Interest by locals is also a huge factor. Walnuts have an important place in Turkish culture. The nuts are considered to be a source of energy and an aphrodisiac.
